Preliminary interconnection study was performed by the Ukrainian State Design Investigation & Research Institute “UkrEnergoSetProekt”. Western and Eastern sites will be connected to the distribution network at interconnection points, owned and operated by Ukrenergo.

The Eastern Site (WPP-100)

The main Substation is 220/33 kV indoor substation with one 220/33 kV step-up transformer of 125 MVA equipped with on-load tap changer.

To enable communication and control of 220 kV and 33 kV switchgears, a local SCADA-system will be installed in the WPP substation control room.

The WPP-1 interconnection to the power grid will be performed by 220 kV single-circuit overhead line with approximate length of 7 km to 220 kV NS-3 substation.

The Western Site (WPP-200)

For the Western site 330/110/33 kV substation will be built.

To enable communication and control of the proposed 330 kV, 110 kV and 33kV switchgears, a local SCADA-system will be installed in the WPP substation control room.

The WPP-200 interconnection to the power grid will be carried out by 330 kV single-circuit overhead line of 120 km approximate length to 330 kV Ostrovskaya substation.

Voltage control

To improve and maintain system stability, two ABB Static Var Compensators (SVC’s) are proposed to be installed in the power grid in the area, owned and operated by Nova-Eco, rated of ±50 Mvar and ±80 Mvar respectively in NS-3 and Ostrovskaya substations. The primary function of the devices is to provide reliable reactive power support to the wind farms under steady-state conditions as well as transient disturbances in the network. The proposed SVC’s make use of a Thyristor Controlled Reactor (TCR) for its fast voltage control action. The thyristor valves are designed to allow robust uninterrupted operation at severe temporary overvoltage and undervoltage conditions.

Interconnection Study compiled in the Project Study was approved by the State Expert Commission and the positive resolution was obtained.
